Baptisms
We are delighted you have decided to have your child baptized into the St. Charles Parish Community. Baptism is a beautiful beginning to a lifelong journey of faith in Jesus Christ. The following information is intended to help you and your family best prepare for the sacrament of baptism and the faith commitment you are about to enter with your child.
Arranging Your Child’s Baptism:
To arrange for your child’s baptism, you must first contact Beth Thompson, Pastoral Associate, at (262) 367-6704 and arrange for an initial interview. During the interview, all pertinent information regarding your child will be taken and a tentative baptism date set.
- Baptisms at St. Charles Parish are normally held on the second and forth weekend of every month, either during one of the scheduled Masses or at noon on Sunday.
- You will also sign up for both the Preparation Class and Brief rehearsal at this meeting (more information below.)
Parents are required to attend a Baptismal Preparation Class before their child is baptized. These classes are usually held the first Sunday of every month from noon until 1:30 P.M. down in the Youth Room (down by the REC Center) with Andrew Schueller and/or Samantha Luedtke, our Directors of Youth & Young Adult Ministries.
A brief rehearsal with the child’s parents and preferably the godparents is required the day before the baptism in the Church with Beth Thompson, Pastoral Associate.
Requirements for Godparents:
You must have at least one Catholic godparent:
- Must be at least 17 years old
- Someone other than the child’s parent
- Fully initiated into the Catholic Church (has received the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist)
- A practicing Catholic (attends Mass regularly, receives Communion, and is a registered member of a Catholic parish)
- Godparents must submit the paperwork signed by their pastor to verify their status as both confirmed and as a parish member in good standing.
You may have a second godparent. They do not need to be Catholic, but they must be a practicing and Baptized Christian of another denomination (non-Catholics will serve as a Christian Witness).
Other Information:
There is a recommended stipend of $10.00 to give to the Priest the day of the baptism
